What Kobel can do — explained fully and in detail.
Permission system
Every folder and every file gets exactly the permission you assign. No more, no less — and everything can be changed at any time.
| Level | Read | Write | Backup | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🟢 Green | ✓ | ✓ | — | Read and write directly. Full access. |
| 🩵 Teal | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | Like Green — but a backup copy is created automatically before every change. |
| 🟠 Orange | ✓ | Copy | — | The AI reads the original but writes only to a copy. The original stays untouched. |
| 🟡 Yellow | ✓ | ✗ | — | Read only. No write access, no changes. |
| 🔴 Red | ✗ | ✗ | — | Fully blocked. The AI does not even see this file. |
You can share whole folders or secure individual files within them. Subfolders inherit the permission of the parent folder — but can also be overridden individually.
Instant control
You do not need to cut connections or delete settings. Every level can be disabled individually and instantly — and switched back on just as fast.
Disable a folder — the AI no longer sees it. All other shares stay active. Re-enable with one click.
Disable one AI completely — it instantly loses all access. Other AIs are not affected.
Apps in the app proxy can be switched on and off individually — without removing or reconfiguring them.
Using the system tray icon, Kobel can be fully disabled with one click. No AI then has access to anything.
App proxy
The app proxy is a Pro feature that lets you connect your own local applications directly to your AI — without touching the software itself.
You enter the name, start command and configuration. Kobel starts the app in the background and establishes the MCP connection to the AI.
CRM systems, image editing tools, database apps, in-house software — anything that runs locally and has a start command.
Each app in the proxy can be toggled on and off live, individually — no restart of Kobel or the AI required.
Setting up the app proxy requires some basic technical knowledge — e.g. the application’s start command and possibly environment variables. For standard software, the app catalog provides ready-made configurations.
App catalog BETA
The built-in app catalog contains ready-made configurations for common applications. No manual setup — just select, activate, done.
All apps are sorted by category and quickly searchable: Creative, Productivity, Development, Data, Browser, AI Tools.
Verified apps have been tested by Kobel and are officially supported. Other community apps carry a corresponding badge.
Kobel detects whether an app is already installed and sets up the MCP connection automatically on request.
Cloud integration
Kobel integrates folders from various cloud services just like local files — with the same permission system, the same colors, the same control. We keep expanding the supported services.
Cloud folders appear in Kobel next to your local folders. Same icons, same colors, same handling.
Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Teal — all five levels apply to cloud content too. The AI only sees what you share.
The connection to your cloud service is made securely via OAuth — no password is stored in Kobel.
Data safety
With Teal permissions, Kobel automatically creates a backup copy of the original file before every AI change. You can return to the state before the AI edit at any time.
No manual backup needed. Kobel stores the backup copy in the same folder — with a timestamp in the file name.
The backup copy sits right next to the original file. Just rename or open it — no special restore function needed.
Backups are created only with Teal permission — only when the AI actually changes something.
Availability
Kobel is built for Windows and available in the Microsoft Store as well as a direct download. A macOS version is in active development.
Microsoft Store (free, 0 % commission) and direct download as an .msi installer.
Planned for 2026. The core of Kobel is already built cross-platform — only the installer is still missing.

Security
When you connect apps or social accounts, Kobel needs credentials such as API keys, tokens or app passwords. They are never stored in plain text but encrypted with your operating system keystore.
On Windows, encryption via DPAPI — bound to your user account on this device. Keychain support for macOS is on the way.
Tokens, passwords and keys exist only in encrypted form — including in the local configuration file.
Decryption happens locally and only when Kobel actually uses the connection. None of it leaves your computer.
Traceability
Kobel keeps a log of every AI action — read, changed, deleted, copied, moved, renamed, plus app and social posts. With timestamp, traffic-light level and status.
Kobel writes the log itself — not the AI. The AI can neither read, change nor clear it.
Filter by text and traffic-light level, export as CSV or JSON. Retention is selectable: 30, 90, 365 days or unlimited.
With Teal permissions every change is backed up automatically beforehand — so any change can be restored from the backup.
In a team, the administrator can make the log mandatory for everyone.
New · Social media
Social media — the AI posts, you approve.
Connect your accounts and the AI can publish posts, reply to comments and read messages — exclusively through the platforms’ official APIs.
7 platforms
Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and Telegram; Threads and Reddit in preparation.
Official APIs only
No browser automation, no third-party services. This protects your accounts from bans and keeps you compliant.
Scoped permissions
Posting, comments, messages — only what you allow. Every connection can be switched off any time, and credentials stay encrypted.
